In Debt

back adjective
used for describing money that is owed from an earlier date and has not been paid yet.

bailiff noun
British an official whose job is to take away the possessions of someone who has not paid money they owe.

debtor noun
a person, organization, or country that owes money.

debt-ridden adjective
in serious financial trouble as a result of owing very large amounts of money.

delinquent adjective
someone who is delinquent in paying their taxes or bills fails to pay the money that they owe.

insolvent adjective
formal a company or person that is insolvent does not have enough money to pay what they owe.

liable adjective
if someone is liable for something, they must pay it or must do it.

if you are overdrawn, or if your bank account is overdrawn, you owe your bank money that you have spent when there was no money in your account.
