Add sth on (to sth)
*To include an extra thing or amount in
something: The referee added on eight minutes of injury time.
*To build an extra part onto a building: You
might want to add on to the kitchen at a later date.
*To build an extra part onto a building: They
refurbished the whole place and even added on.
*(This
use of on with add is colloquial) To extend something by providing more of
something: You added nearly one thousand dollars onto the total.
If you add something on, you attach it to
something else or include it as part of something else: If the tip hasn’t been
added on, you will see the words ‘service not included.’ # They add on about
nine per cent for service.
*To include or put on something extra:
Proposals to add a penny on income tax. # The private chapel was added on to
the church much later.
*To increase something in size, number, amount,
etc.: The bad weather only added to our difficulties, # The house has been
added to (=new rooms, etc. have been built on to it) from time to time.
