*If you ask after someone, you want to know
whether they are well, what they are doing: I spoke to James today. He was
asking after you.
*To say that you would like to know how
somebody is, what they are doing, etc.: He always asks after you in his
letters.
*To ask for information about someone,
especially about their health: Tell your father I was asking after him.
*If you ask after someone, you ask for
information abut them, for example how they are and if they are well, or what
they are doing at the present time: She asked after my father. # She asked
after his health. # If anyone should ask after me, say I’m at the Thunderbird
hotel.
