Ask sb over/round

*(for a visit) To invite someone who lives close by to come to one’s home (Either to a house or apartment): Can we ask Tom over? He has been asked over a number of times.

*If you ask over someone over, you invite them to come and visit you: One evening he asked me over to inspect the house. # He asked us over to his flat. # What if he asks you over for the evening?

*Invite someone to come to your home: We must ask to our new neighbours over for a drink.

*(British informal) If you ask someone round, you invite them to come and visit you: I hoped he’d ask me around to his pad. # ‘She’s asked me round on Friday,’ said the Count. # I’ll ask Sylvia Wicks round for a drink.
