Phrasal Verbs - Think ahead


Think ahead (Inseparable) = Pensar en el futuro
                               Think = Pensar     Ahead = Adelante

Ejemplos:

Phrasal Verbs - Stand out


Stand out (Inseparable) = Tenemos dos definiciones.
                        *Destacar.
                        *Dar la nota, ponerse en una situación donde te vuelves el centro de atención.
                         Stand = Estar de pié         Out = Fuera

Ejemplos:

That new technology is going to stand out = Esa nueva tecnología va a destacar.
You are going to stand out with that pink jacket = Vas a dar la nota con esa chaqueta rosa.
I think that color for a car stands out too much = Creo que ese color, para un coche, llama la atención.
Él destaca entre sus compañeros = He stands out among his colleagues.
Los superdotados destacan = Gifted people stand out.
Eso da un poco la nota = That stands out a little.
Dan la nota = They stand out.
Ya no destacan = They no longer stand out.
No des la nota = Don’t stand out.
Esa chaqueta da la nota = The jacket stands out.

Stay up + ing (Inseparable) = Quedarse / Permanecer despierto.
                               Stay = Quedarse        Up = Arriba

I usually stay up late at weekends = Suelo quedar despierto tarde los fines de semana.

Step up (on) (Inseparable) = Aumentar la intensidad de una acción.
                        Step = Poner el pie / Pisar     Up = Arriba     On = Sobre, encima.

Ejemplos:

The government had to step up on security, due to the king’s visit = El gobierno tuvo que aumentar la seguridad, debido a la visita del rey.
We need to step up on the number of hours that we work = tenemos que aumentar el número de horas que trabajamos.

Speak up (Inseparable) = Tenemos dos definiciones
                               *Hablar más alto.
                               *Atreverse a expresar una opinion.
                               Speak = Hablar       Up = arriba

Ejemplos:

Speak up, I can’t hear you = Habla más alto, no te oigo.
We decided to speak up at the meeting = Decidimos expresar nuestra opinion en la reunion.
Hable más alto de lo habitual = Speak up.

Sleep in (Inseparable) = Dormir más horas de lo normal.
                               Sleep = Dormir    In = Dentro
