*To reply in a rude way to someone that you are
supposed to obey: Don’t answer me back young man!
*To speak rudely to somebody in authority,
especially when they are criticizing you or telling you to do something: Don’t
answer back! # Stop answering your mother back!
*If someone, especially a child, answers you
back or answers back, they speak rudely to you when you have spoken to them:
What do you do with a child who answers back? # He answered back vehemently. #
at first I couldn’t resist the temptation to answers teacher back.
*To speak rudely when answering someone in
authority: Don’t you dare answer me back, young lady!
*To reply rudely to someone who has more
authority than you: Don’t you dare answer me back! # I don’t like children who
answer back.
